More often, wealthy families lose their wealth in three generations for this reason. The first generation are money makers. They work hard but end up raising the next generation to be caretakers.
The caretakers do not continue in the visionary leadership footsteps of their parents because they are raised to be managers.
One the vision of the money makers is completely lost, prodigality is all that’s left. The caretakers raise undertakers. And a once wealthy family is reduced back to penury.
