The dismissive thing about first attempts is that we almost always shoot and miss.
Our sheer optimism is stoked by the myth of beginner’s luck. More often than none, people, like us get lucky at winning the lottery, getting married or starting a business, we tell ourselves.
Yet it is exactly people like us who flunk out, get divorced or file for bankruptcy. The important thing is to never give up, get back on the saddle and try again.
