The discovery

In the story of the prodigal son that Jesus told, the boy coming to his back to senses, having lived out his vainest fantasies, is certainly the most important arc of that story.

His best imaginations eventually led him to groveling with pigs when servants in his father’s home ate like lords.

That boy is almost every one of us, given the unnecessary struggles we often endure. If God gave us His best without having to ask Him, how gravely do we shortchange ourselves by preferring our vainest fantasies?
