When the Bible says, “Train up a child in the way he or she should go”, what are the liabilities for parents to whom this instruction was primarily addressed?
The import is that parents ought to know ab initio what their children should be when they grow up.
So what might indicate God’s mind about the vocation of your children? Simple. The call of God on your life, and before I lose you, let me explain.
From the beginning of time, it appears that everyone God called could only fulfill his or her call in three or four generations. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were called to be the priests of God under His name, El Shaddai, to raise and service altars that would eventually guarantee the right of passage of their descendants into the promised land.
It is also apparent that God’s primary assessment and reward system of a person extended to the third or fourth generation, implying that one could benefit or be liable for the actions of previous generations particularly as it involves serving or not serving God.
That said, another way parents are liable to training up their children in the way they should go is in praying to know the will of God for your children. The Bible let’s us know that the Holy Spirit will show you all truth, including the truth about your children. And per adventure, you have been a Christian but never interacted with the Holy Spirit, you can just ask God for the Holy Spirit now, like a child would ask a wealthy parent for food and be fed, and just believe you receive and you will have the Holy Spirit ministering to you from this moment onwards.
Perhaps, you are yet to have children and don’t know God’s calling on your life, ask the Holy Spirit and He will show you. There is a likelihood that your children will have similar callings and God will require you to also train your children on how to avoid some of your own mistakes in the accomplishment their callings.
Don’t take this for granted, lineages have vocations for which they must be trained. You may have lived to this point without ever discovering your lineage’s vocation but that should change with this post. It was like that in Bible days and it hasn’t changed.
If you are a parent, you have a solemn duty to know and train your children such that, who they hang out with, the education they receive and the sense of destiny they have, is tied to God’s call and design. If don’t do your responsibility, chaos breaks out and there will almost always something left unattended in God’s plan for your life that predisposes many, not just your family, to all kinds of harm.
My charge to you today is to ask God to reveal His will for your life and for your children. Note it down, look for scriptures in the Bible that align with what you receive and continue to pray for guidance. I believe that with God’s help, you will reposition your children to fulfill destiny as God would have it.
