We are going on to the next milestone, the Mind. And I would ask that you read the earlier three posts before reading this one if you haven’t done so yet.
The Battlefield of the Mind
The spiritual technicality about becoming God’s child in my last post has to do with your spirit. You see, man is a spirit. He lives in a body and he has a soul. If you became God’s child in my previous post, you recovered completely in the spiritual realm. In that realm, you became incapable of sickness. Jesus, the sinless Son of God, took upon Himself the sin nature and took in His body all sickness. He was your substitute. He is now your righteousness and health. Your ability to recover from any sickness is a present hour reality. Ephesians 1:3 says that you have been (note the tense) blessed with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places in Christ. This may sound like spiritual jargon but what it means is that you have been granted everything you could ever want or need in your life. The spiritual precedes the natural.
A good example would be an heiress to a great family fortune, living apart from her US-based parents in a foreign country let’s say, Kenya. Her parents are multimillionaires who have set up an escrow account to take care of all her expenses while she takes part in a volunteering effort in the outskirts of Nairobi. Though monthly payments in US dollars are made to her accounts from the escrow, she still has to convert her allowances to Kenyan shillings to be able to pay for food and utilities there. This is the same relationship between you and God after you become His child. Your health is deposited in a spiritual account. Jesus paid the full price for your health such that you should never have to bear any disease.
In the mind of justice, Jesus bore the effects of disease-causing vectors, bacteria, protozoan, fungi and viruses in exchange for you to live healthily.
When the Bible says you have been blessed with every blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, it means every spiritual benefit, including your ability to recover from any sickness, has been deposited inside you.
Now, it behooves you to convert this ability from spiritual truth to material reality. This is where your mind becomes an all-important asset. You see, like the girl living in Kenya who must convert her monthly stipends from US dollars to Kenyan shillings, your mind is the tool for converting spiritual to material in order for you to enjoy life.
Romans 12:3 says, ‘…do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.’
God can wish you well all He wants but until your mind can take hold of God’s will, recovery will be impossible. Everything about taking the spiritual blessing God has blessed you with and converting it into tangible results is hinged on the operation of your mind.
God, your Heavenly Father, has already provided what you need to recover from any sickness. He sent Jesus as a substitute. Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross were more about giving you the ability to live sickness-free.
The only reason why you may not yet be enjoying this health that God has blessed you with is a battle that is currently raging in your mind of which you may not even be aware. The essence of this book is to help you win this battle.
Winning the Battle of the Mind
That morning, everything I felt told me lies. The gnawing pain that throbbed underneath my right breast told me I had sustained an internal injury that would ultimately culminate in my untimely demise. Symptoms are this way. They speak, telling us with some degree of certainty that we are going to die or things are going to get worse. It’s all a lie if you have become a child of God. The fact that the symptoms are telling you something negative; that you are always going to be in pain or that things are going to get worse, should show you the real culprit and where the battle truly lies. The mind is the real culprit and the battleground.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says, ‘For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ…’
What weapons? Weapons mighty enough to pull down the mental superstructures that those symptoms have erected and continue to erect in your mind. These are thoughts strong enough to displace those negative thoughts that the symptoms you are experiencing have produced. Like rogue agents from a foreign power, these thoughts of pain and death are bent on sabotaging God’s sovereign decree about your health. The fact that you are entertaining or even being controlled by these negative thoughts delights their originator, the devil.
While you will learn to deny the devil of this thrill, it is important to know that thoughts are like tangible things in the realm of the spirit. Some are tougher than others are. The negative thoughts emanating from the symptoms you might be experiencing are the perpetuating factor of sickness in God’s children. These negative thoughts are not as tough as thoughts founded on the word of God. Therefore, you must use thoughts from the word of God to douse the negative thoughts in your mind, in order to manifest the health that is yours by right.
The underlying principle behind using thoughts from the word of God to recover from any sickness comes from Romans 8:2, which reads:
‘…the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.’
The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus is the only law that defies the law of sin and death. Every other spiritual law known to humankind is subject to the law of sin and death. Take it as the spiritual gravity that often pulls men and women to untimely graves. This law of sin and death is the spiritual basis for every sickness in the world. The barrenness, incapacitation and injury all have their life source in the law of sin and death such that only the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, the spiritual aerodynamics, can lift you out of the erectile dysfunction, the sickbed, or the very throes of death.
However, you first have to understand where both laws apply. They apply in your mind. And this is why the mind is such an important aspect of recovering from any sickness.
Examining Romans 8:6, the Bible says, ‘… to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.’
Possessing a carnal mind is easy. It’s allowing all the information that comes into your mind through your five senses to govern your behaviour. It’s what produces the anxiety you feel in your heart about the future, whether you will recover or die. It is what keeps you sickness-conscious, perpetuating the symptoms you are experiencing.
Getting rid of this carnal mind is the secret to recovering from any sickness, no matter how advanced or severe the symptoms are. The only way to do this is to apply the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus to your mind such that it counters the law of sin and death. Never be mistaken, sickness has only one goal in your life and that is to truncate it. The good news is, that you can win this battle through a meditative process I will introduce to you in the next chapter.
Now that we have clarified the principles that undergird sickness and recovery, we will delve into how to apply the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus to recover from traumas, infections and all kinds of diseases.
Our next stop is meditation and I would ask you to pay intricate attention to the Bible’s meaning of meditation as it diverges from the nuances of the New Age version. Until the next post, share, respond, like and be well.
Maranatha!
